Working from home has been a part of our lives now. It’s also considered to be the “New Normal”.  As we dive into the digital world and get ourselves equipped with new forms of media and digitalization, we also have to work on how it’s impacting and contributing to our daily lives. Let’s go through the tips and tricks that can help us in working from home in today’s digital world.

Work-from-home culture or working remotely has been one of the changes that the new age world has adapted to. Something that was not considered to exist has become a part of most of our lives. Although it has its own merits, it also comes up with its demerits. One of the major aspects to look into is the segregation of workspace and personal space. We often find it difficult to make a distinction between both. On the one hand, it makes our morning free of troublesome traffic and chaos, but it also makes us not stick to our patterned routine and get caught up in the vicious cycle of laziness and lethargic attitude. It has outgrown the belief of being in pyjamas and moving to a flexible routine to improve one’s productivity as well. Working from home also allows you to have that sense of autonomy, freedom, and comfort of working in your own space (O’Hara, C.,2021).

  • Stick to a routine- Sticking to a routine and following a pattern is one of the utmost important things. 
  • Set Boundaries- Define a clear distinction between your working space and personal space. Make sure you don’t work either in your bed or your bedroom. 
  • Take breaks- Take regular breaks during your working hours, whether it’s taking a stroll or maybe a tea break. 
  •  Connect with colleagues- As social beings, it is important to stay connected with your colleagues, maybe through voice or video chats.
  • Make different to-do lists for personal and work- Making a to-do list will help you stay focused and motivated toward the work that you are catering to.
  • Limit distractions- Ensure focusing on work during working hours and staying off various social media platforms during that time to avoid distractions.
  • Create a morning routine- Start your day by having a routine, it’s good to have a hustle-free morning and maybe spend time doing mindfulness.
  • Get some fresh air- Focus on getting fresh air and some sunlight during your work hours as well, maybe just going for a stroll.
  • Exercise- Adhere to a routine of exercise and focus on some stretching and movement. 
  • Eat Healthy- While one gets caught up with their work and meetings and finishing up tasks, it’s important to ensure eating a complete nutritive diet.

  • Working Environment- Productivity can be enhanced while ensuring a nice and comfortable working environment. Your workspace should be away from your personal environment like away from the bedroom, living room etc.
  • Adhere to your Work Hours- Try to work only between your working hours, to ensure you are also spending quality time with your family and friends. While also giving yourself small pockets of my time.
  • Set goals- Set short-term and long-term goals. Setting goals would also help one to be focused and motivated towards their work and themselves. 
  • Avoid multitasking- (Nordli, B.,2024) Multi-tasking may sound cool, but it actually hampers our productivity. Try to focus on one task at a time so that one is able to complete a task up to its optimal functioning. 
  • Follow a morning ritual- Create a morning routine before your work hours to focus on your physical and mental well-being.
  • Hydrate and eat- Keeping yourself hydrated and having small snack breaks can help you rejuvenate yourself and also help you recharge and refresh your mind.
  • Take tea breaks- While fully focusing on your work can be draining, allow yourself to take some small breaks in between to enhance your productivity. 
  • Physical Activity- Regular exercise or mobilizing oneself can help you focus on your overall well-being. While being at home can be relaxing, it is also important to exercise regularly. 
  • Get some sun- Ensure that you get adequate sunlight and fresh air between your working hours. It will help you to reconnect with your own self.
  • Focus on relationships- Connect with friends and family every now and then to express and vent out your emotions and feelings.

  • Take a day off when you need to. Ensure that you are taking a day off whenever you feel the need to. It is important to take care of both your physical and mental health.
  • Try to manage your stress- While personal stressors can come between your work life and vice-versa, ensure that you are able to manage the stressors well. 

Conclusion

Remote working is an easy and comfortable way to work from your own comfortable space, but ensuring that we also take care of certain things so that it doesn’t hamper us is very important. Creating a morning routine following it and also getting ready to work even when it is from home makes a significant difference. By inculcating these little changes, one can enjoy the remote working process.
