Zohar Fisilovici | Social Worker
My family emigrated to Canada in the early 1970s, when I was a toddler. I grew up as an only child, but surrounded by family and friends. I decided to pursue a career in mental health out of high school, and received a B.A. in Psychology, a Diploma in Human Services, and an M.A. in Counselling Psychology. I have been working in the field for over 20 years.
About My Family
My family is Romanian. It’s an interesting country. It is in Eastern Europe, but the language, and some customs are Latin based. It is rich in resources, but experienced a lot of turmoil. In Canada, my father worked as a nurse, and my mother worked as a pathologist. Because of great medical care throughout the years, and my parents being in healthcare services, I wanted to pursue that as well, but my interest leaned toward mental health.
About My Professional Experience
I have over 20 years experience in the mental health field. I’ve worked as a Therapist, Counsellor and Case Manager in non-profit agencies, Corporation, and in private practice. I’ve worked with individuals, couples, families and groups; with people from ages ranging from teens to seniors. Modalities I work with most are CBT, DBT and Mindfulness. The essential aspect of my work is the therapeutic relationship, respecting and supporting the journey of the person I am working with.
About My Fun Side
My main hobby is drawing and digital painting. I enjoy reading and discussion in areas such as science and politics. I prefer small gatherings with friends and family, and walks in nature. This is how I connect, and renew my energy.
